Zenuity is a 50-50 joint venture between Volvo Cars and Swedish vehicle safety technology provider Veoneer. The original idea was to develop a powerful software platform for advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving systems.
At present, Zenuity will be split into two parts, one part will be owned by Volvo Cars, and a new company will be established to focus on the development and commercialization of unmanned autonomous driving software. The other part will be integrated into Veoneer and will focus on the development and commercialization of advanced driver assistance systems.

According to the agreement, Zenuity's operations and personnel in Gothenburg, Sweden and Shanghai, China will be transferred to Volvo Cars' new company, while the operations and personnel in Germany and the United States will be transferred to Veoneer.
Next, the Zenuity part owned by Volvo Cars will focus on the development of software for unsupervised autonomous driving, which is planned to be introduced in the next-generation Volvo SPA2 architecture. The new company affiliated with Volvo Cars will operate its own distribution channel and remain independent. The new company is expected to start operations in the third quarter of this year at the latest.
Volvo Cars believes the new company can help Volvo introduce safer autonomous driving. Volvo Cars also believes that there will be only a few globalized autonomous driving software in the future, and the establishment of the new company can help them gain a competitive advantage.
