Are American SUVs prone to breakage?

The characteristic of American SUVs is that they have a large body and are equipped with a large displacement engine in order to move the huge body.

In recent years, American car bodies have also begun to become smaller, and the size of power systems has also been reduced, and they have continued to promote electrification. However, medium and large SUVs with a total length of nearly 5 meters and large SUVs with a total length of more than 5 meters are still quite popular.

This article will not only introduce the currently very popular American SUVs and the new generation SUVs that are expected to be released, but also introduce the recommended second-hand American SUVs that are currently available for purchase in Japan.

[Current]Ranking of Top 5 Popular SUV Recommendations in the United States

Fifth place: Buick Enclave

Buick, the top luxury car manufacturer in the United States, has now become the exclusive brand of GM Group's premium SUVs.

The Enclave, the largest of the current models, is a 7-passenger large SUV that shares a chassis platform with the GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse.

The Enclave body is 5.20m long × 2.00m wide × 1.77m high. It is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine that can produce 310 horsepower. It looks like a high-end car.

The interior quietness and ride quality are both excellent, and it received the highest number of votes in the JD Power 2022 in the United States.

Fourth place: GMC Acadia

The Acadia is a large SUV slightly smaller than the GMC Yukon, with body dimensions of 4.91m long, 1.92m wide, and 1.69m high.

The entry-level specification is equipped with a 2.0L straight-4 turbo engine, and the high-end specification is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine. In addition, the product lineup also includes the "Denali" which has the same high-end specifications as the Yukon.

Unlike the aggressive super-large GMC Yukon and off-road vehicle GMC Denali, the Acadia adopts a simple front design and a blocky body design. Among the GMC SUV product lineup, it is the model that pays the most attention to sporty appearance.

Third place: Chevrolet Traverse

The Traverse is the successor to the old Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was also imported into Japan.

The current vehicle body dimensions are 5.22m long, 1.99m wide, and 1.79m high, which is smaller than the Chevrolet Tahoe. There are 7-seater and 8-seater models, and all models are equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine.

The driving control includes off-road mode and tow mode, and an RS specification with a sporty appearance is also available. The Traverse can be said to be a large SUV that emphasizes drivability.

Second place: Jeep Wrangler

The orthodox off-road vehicle Wrangler continues the retro design of the first-generation model and has the brand's top-notch excellent off-road maneuverability.

The body dimensions are 4.87m long x 1.89m wide x 1.84m high. The U.S. product lineup includes models equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine, the Rubicon 392 equipped with a 6.4L V8 engine, and the 4×e PHEV model. However, in Japan you can only buy the Sahara and Rubicon equipped with a 2.0L straight-4 turbo.

It is a medium-sized SUV and the interior is narrow, so it is difficult to say that it is very convenient for daily use. But Jeep Wrangler is the representative of American SUVs with irreplaceable charm.

First place: Chevrolet Blazer

The Chevrolet Blazer, which was officially imported to Japan in the past, is currently the most popular American SUV.

The current model retains the convenience of a mid- to large-sized SUV, with a length of 4.87m, a width of approximately 1.94m, and a height of 1.70m. The appearance is different from the old Blazer, with an advanced and attractive design. I look forward to it being introduced in Japan in the future.

The regular model is equipped with a 2.0L straight-4 turbo engine, while the "RS" specification, which is reminiscent of the Chevrolet Camaro's sporty appearance, is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine.
