Nissan released the pure electric concept car "Concept 20-23" on September 25, 2023.
"Concept 20-23" is a concept car built to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in London. It is also a model that symbolizes the epitome of the 20-year history of Nissan Design Europe (NDE), which has continued to produce advanced automotive designs.
In addition, at the launch of the vehicle, Mr. Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan Motor, also went to NDE to announce that the new cars launched in Europe by 2030 will mainly be electric vehicles. As European countries discuss whether to ban the sale of engine-powered cars, Nissan officially announced that it is moving towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by promoting the conversion to electric vehicles.
"Nissan Design Europe (NDE)", established in 2003, is the base responsible for Nissan vehicle design and other projects in Europe. There are about 60 employees, divided into specialized teams for exterior decoration, interior decoration, clay car modeling, and digital design to manufacture vehicles.
The first car launched by NDE is the "Qashqai Concept" released at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. In 2009, the "Juke" was launched with a near-future, unconventional design. In 2015, the "Gripz Concept" was created, which is a tribute to the "Datsan 240Z" that swept the Safari Rally in 1971.
In addition, they have also created various novel and distinctive designs such as the "NV200 Concept" and the "NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision" that appeared in the racing game "Gran Turismo".
The origin of the Nissan "Concept 20-23" car name is the 20-year history of NDE to this day, the meaning of "Nissan brand pronunciation (23)" and its birth in "2023".
Concept 20-23 was created by NDE's young designer team with the concept of "a design car you want to drive in London" and inherits the "Be-1", "PAO", "Figaro" and " S-Cargo" and so on represent the essence of Pike Car and add colors that are in line with the 21st century.
It reflects the design of Nissan Formula E competition vehicles and virtual racing cars. The body is a common three-door hatchback, but the functional design is equivalent to that of a racing car.
In addition to the air intakes designed in the front spoiler for cooling the brakes, the boldly shaped front and rear fenders have exhaust holes to discharge brake heat and drag.
There is also a ventilation design on the roof, and there is a huge integrated rear wing behind the roof. The rear bumper is made into an orthodox diffuser shape that can discharge the air under the car body and increase downforce.
The headlights and taillights are composed of two upper and lower semicircular LED lights, which not only give people an impression of agility, but also have a cute feeling of retro round headlights. The door opening and closing method adopts a guillotine-type door that opens upward from the bottom of the A-pillar.
In terms of interior, racing functions are presented in the form of near-future design, with minimal information marked on the LCD screen. The buttons related to the power system are concentrated on the inside of the steering wheel, just like a racing car.
Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan's executive director of global design, said, "Concept 20-23 is about turning bold ideas into reality and injecting life into them. It is very appropriate to celebrate NDE's 20th anniversary."
NDE Vice President Matthew Weaver said, "Although NDE is a relatively small team, it has been producing bold, novel and revolutionary works since the opening of the London Design Center 20 years ago, and I am very proud of this."
