3 of the most iconic Formula 1 cars of all time - AutoReview.nl

Those who in recent years, thanks to the rise of Max Verstappen, have started to look at the Formula 1 – first via Ziggo Sport, then via Viaplay or F1 TV – know the iconic cars with which Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen achieved their successes in recent years. But even before that there were many iconic and unforgettable cars in the race. We discuss three of the most iconic Formula 1 cars of all time.

Ferrari F2002

One of the most legendary and successful Formula 1 cars of recent times is undoubtedly Ferrari's F2002. This car, developed and produced by Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, made its debut during the 2002 season of the Formula 1 World Championship. The F2002 was equipped with a powerful naturally aspirated 3-litre V10 engine working together with an advanced 7-speed automatic gearbox. With an impressive output of 835 hp at over 17,000 rpm, this powertrain showed the true power of Ferrari's technological innovation.

During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, this model achieved 15 race wins, 28 podium finishes, 11 pole positions and 15 fastest lap awards. These achievements propelled Ferrari to the top undisputed, resulting in them winning both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships during that period.

Brawn BGP 001

Brawn is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable and successful teams in the rich history of Formula 1. Their unique achievement is characterized by the impressive way in which they managed to take advantage of the new regulations in 2009. The remarkable thing is that in their very first and only season in Formula 1, Brawn managed to win both the Constructors' Championship and the Drivers' Championship.

Powered by a Mercedes-Benz 2.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, the Brawn BGP 001 delivered a powerful 750 horsepower. Although this engine was used in several cars on the grid that year, Brawn created a dynamic aerodynamic package that got the most out of this powerplant. This saw Jenson Button crowned Drivers' Championship for the only time, while also taking the team's first and only Constructors' title.

Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid

With design work by renowned F1 engineers, the W05 was the pioneer of Mercedes' hybrid-powered F1 cars. The 1.6-liter Hybrid V6 engine generated more than 800 horsepower and was complemented by an electric motor and ERS system for extra power. This turbocharged engine integrated seamlessly with the carbon fiber body, leading Mercedes to their first-ever Constructors' and Drivers' title. In the 2014 season, the W05 won 16 of 19 races, 11 of which were 1-2 finishes by Hamilton and Rosberg. In total, the W05 spawned 31 podiums, 18 pole positions and 12 fastest lap awards alongside 16 victories, making it one of the most dominant and successful F1 cars in history.

Of course, there were also several iconic cars to admire in Formula 1 in the last century. What about the Benetton B195, with which Michael Schumacher won his first world championship title. Or the McLaren-Honda MP4/4, driven by both Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, and with which Senna won the 1988 Drivers' Championship.
