6 indications that the new Volkswagen Tiguan is a nice car - AutoReview.nl

The Volkswagen Tiguan is such an irritating all-rounder: it is spacious, practical, beautiful, reliable and also drives well. The new Tiguan will come to the Netherlands in early 2024 and all lights are green.

Why all-rounders are annoying? Because cars that score well in all areas invariably win our comparative tests and that makes our work boring. Moreover, the Tiguan is not exactly an original car choice, as more than 7.5 million have already been sold. It is the most popular Volkswagen of the moment.

The innovations brought by the third generation Tiguan should ensure that it continues to win the tests of car magazines and the hearts of car buyers. Below we list the most important advantages. By the way, we are curious what the typical Volkswagen driver thinks of the design... it has a Chinese flavor, if you ask us.

1. Steering wheel with regular buttons

We saw it immediately when Volkswagen sent the first images of the Tiguan to the world: he is spared a great annoyance. The Tiguan has a steering wheel with normal buttons. So you don't have to fiddle with the touch buttons that all ID. models have.

2. 100 kilometers of electric driving

The Tiguan plug-in hybrid gets a new battery pack that extends the electric range to 100 kilometers. Teach yourself to plug in often and your fuel consumption will plummet. All short journeys are completed entirely on electricity and the first hundred kilometers of long journeys are 'free'.

For those who keep score of all the times we dared to predict something: beforehand we assumed a battery pack of 'approximately 20 kWh'. Now we know the official capacity: 19.7 kWh. Bonus point for us.

3. HD matrixkoplampen

The HD matrix headlights of the new one Volkswagen Touareg are optionally available for the Tiguan. 'HD' refers to the high resolution of the light beam and, as you know, the matrix function ensures that oncoming traffic is not dazzled.

The additional cost of these super headlights is still unknown, but since the Tiguan will not be released until early 2024, you still have a very long, dark winter to think about what they are worth to you.

4. Adaptive shock absorbers

New adaptive shock absorbers called DCC Pro will increase comfort at an additional cost. You can choose from fifteen settings – from very comfortable to very sporty. The question is whether you need them, because Volkswagen models are known for their mature suspension comfort. It is a shame to order expensive shock absorbers and then always drive in normal mode...

5. ErgoActive front seats

As you read above, you can order the Tiguan with adaptive shock absorbers. But there's something to be said for investing that money in the ErgoActive Plus front seats with massage function, heating and ventilation. Because good seats may do even more for the comfort experience than advanced dampers.

6. Even more space

The differences are small, but welcome: 37 liters more luggage space (652 liters) and 10 mm extra headroom. This is thanks to the slightly larger external dimensions: the new Tiguan is 30 mm longer and 4 mm higher than its predecessor. The width and wheelbase remained the same.

Things Tiguan drivers have to get used to

We spotted a few changes that are new for current Tiguan drivers:

  • Climate control is controlled via sliders at the bottom and buttons in the touchscreen
  • You operate the automatic transmission with a handle behind the steering wheel. VW does not supply a manual gearbox.
  • The Tiguan plug-in hybrid can charge quickly, so you end up among the EVs at Fastned.
