Apply now! Before you know it, the subsidy for electric cars will be up again

In 2021, the government made about 28 million euros available, of which 14.4 million for new electric cars. That money ran out after one day. This is because applications from 2020 were transferred to 2021. This year the subsidy pot has been increased to 91.4 million euros. 71 million euros of this is earmarked for subsidies for new electric cars and 20.4 million euros for used ones.

Subsidy electric car conditions

If you buy or lease a new car, you can get 3350 euros from the government. Last year it was still 4000 euros. For second-hand EVs, the subsidy amount is unchanged at 2000 euros. To be eligible for the subsidy, your electric car must meet a number of requirements:

• It must be 100 percent electric. (Plug-in) hybrids do not count. Hydrogen cars do;
• It must have been built as an electric car. Converted cars are not eligible;
• The range of the car must be at least 120 kilometers;
• The (original) purchase price must be between 12,000 and 45,000 euros;
• Are you buying an EV? Then you will receive the subsidy amount in one go and you must keep the car for at least 3 years;
• With private lease you will receive the subsidy per month and a minimum term of 4 years applies.

Purchase agreement on or after 1 January

It is also important that the purchase agreement for the car is in your name and that it was signed on or after January 1, 2022. The same applies to the name of the car. If you opt for a used EV, you must have bought it from a car company with RDW approval. In the case of a private lease, the lease company must have the Private Lease Quality Mark.

How can you apply for the subsidy?

You can apply for the subsidy for your electric car via the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. You can also have the application submitted by the selling party, but you will have to fill in an authorization form for this.
