Buying a new car? Check these three costs in advance! - AutoReview.nl

It's a bit like booking and paying for a holiday; the focus is often very much on the price of the trip and accommodation, and less on the place of destination. But the latter is often where the most money is spent. From a drink here to dinner there, there can be quite a difference in costs. We see the same effect when purchasing a car. Often there is fanatical bargaining on the price of the car, but the standard fixed costs are forgotten and/or not checked in advance. That is why here are a number of tips that it is smart to check in advance when purchasing a car.

1 Well insured

Now that you want to buy a new car, its value will probably be higher than your old car and this will affect your car insurance. Before you buy the new car, it is therefore smart to check your new one car insurance calculation. Do not just base this on your old insurance policy, but take a good look at what is required for your new car. Comparing these different car insurance policies can actually save you a lot of money.

2 It will never be fun

Another fixed cost item is the motor vehicle tax that you pay for your car. Many people do not know that this also differs greatly per car and the type of fuel it runs on. For an average diesel you will spend much more than a sustainable electric car. With the latter, subsidies are even possible, whereby you receive money, as it were. Paying taxes is never fun, but keep it in mind and adjust your choice accordingly where necessary.

3 Don't ride on nothing

In addition to the fact that it makes a difference to the tax whether you drive diesel, petrol or electric, it also makes a difference to the cost of fuel. One car is not the other, an old-timer can be considerably higher in terms of consumption than a new car. Even when they both run on petrol. Looking at this before closing the sale is highly recommended, to avoid unpleasant surprises at the pump later on. An electric car does not give these kinds of surprises, but it can limit you in other ways, for example due to a limited range or little traction. Also something to take into account beforehand.

In short, buying a car for a competitive price is wonderful, but do realize that there will also be many costs afterwards. For example, by different compare car insurance, you can be sure that you will never pay more than necessary. By mapping out these costs in advance, you can prevent quite a few unpleasant surprises later on.
