Although the new Volkswagen Multivan has little to do with the current Transporter T6, which still uses the platform of the T5 (2003 - 2015). The Multivan, in turn, stands on a flexible MQB base. With this, Volkswagen has created the possibility to electrify the model.
The Volkswagen Multivan is longer (4.97 meters), wider (1.94 meters) and lower (1.90 meters) than its predecessor, with a wheelbase that has grown 12.4 centimeters (now 3.12 meters). To free up space in the interior, the bus no longer has a gear lever and handbrake lever. It is always equipped with a DSG automatic transmission, which you operate with a switch next to the steering wheel.
For the first time, the Volkswagen Multivan has digital instrumentation and an infotainment system as standard. It is also available with, among other things, a 360-degree camera and a large glass panoramic roof. Behind the driver and front passenger are five easily removable seats in two rows. The second row seats can be rotated 180 degrees.
There is also a fold-out table, which can be moved to any desired position via a rail system: between the front seats, or between the seats in the second or third row. When folded, the table acts as a center console between the front seats. The whole is also removable, of course.
In the luggage compartment - with optional electrically operated flap - there is room for 469 - 3672 liters of suitcases, boxes, shelves, stones, and so on. There is also a long version of the Volkswagen Multivan. That comes to 763 - 4005 liters. You can hang a trailer of up to 2000 kilos behind the MPV.
The MQB platform ensures that Volkswagen can also supply the Multivan as an eHybrid. The plug-in hybrid combines a 1.4 TSI engine with an electric motor and comes to a total power of 218 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Thanks to a 13 kWh battery, the Volkswagen Multivan eHybrid can drive approximately 50 kilometers fully electrically.
It is of course also possible to order the Multivan without plug technology. The Volkswagen price list also includes a 2.0 TDI turbo diesel with 150 hp, a 1.5 TSI with 136 hp and a 2.0 TSI with 204 hp. As mentioned above: they all have a DSG automatic transmission. The new Volkswagen Multivan will not be launched on the Dutch market until early 2022.
