Daihatsu's Malaysian national car "Axia" has a major facelift
●A-Segment DNGA chassis platform is adopted for the first time
●Small but presentable design and spacious interior space
On February 14, 2023, Daihatsu will implement a major facelift and launch the A-Segment small car "Axia" produced by Perodua, a local joint venture company in Malaysia.
The Axia is a small five-seater hatchback that is popular as a national car that pursues low price and fuel efficiency. The previous generation model has sold about 570,000 units since its launch in September 2014.
Through this major facelift, Axia adopts the DNGA A-Segment dedicated chassis platform for the first time. It is the third DNGA product after the small SUV "Ativa" and the seven-seater MPV "Alza".
The engine newly adopts a 1L inline 3-cylinder engine with a variable valve timing system, and the transmission continues to use the D-CVT of the previous model. In addition, the fuel consumption performance is improved by reducing the weight of the vehicle.
Taking "Powerful & Aggressive" as the design theme, it creates a compact yet presentable appearance, and ensures a spacious interior and storage space.
In addition, new functions have been added to the collision avoidance assistance system "Smart Assist" optimized for Malaysian road environments such as high-speed driving, and safety equipment such as blind-spot cameras are also equipped.
The suggested price starts from about 1.17 million yen.
