Do you drive an electric car? Then the Dutch economy wants to thank you

The number of 'green' jobs in the Netherlands is rising sharply, according to research by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). There are currently around 7,000 full-time jobs in the electric transport sector, which is a third more than in 2018. Employment in the electrical sector is expected to double to around 13,500 jobs by 2025. Companies in the Netherlands currently produce 5 billion euros worth of electric cars, buses, trucks and charging stations. In 2018, that was still more than 3 billion euros. By way of comparison: the electric sector is now about three times the size of the Dutch bicycle sector.

Electric cars, trucks, buses and barges

Important players in the electric market include: Lightyear (cars), DAF (trucks), Holthausen (hydrogen trucks), VDL and Ebusco (buses), EV Box, New Motion, Alfen, Pitpoint and Allego (charging stations). In the Netherlands, work is also being done on electric inland vessels and the first fully electric motorhomes have been built here. A strong increase is expected in the coming years in the number of trucks, buses, scooters and cars with a plug. In 2020, a quarter of new cars sold in the Netherlands were electric.
