Does this intended Tesla killer stand a chance? Comparison BYD Seal vs. Tesla Model 3 - AutoReview.nl

With the BYD Seal, the Chinese brand is clearly aiming for the Tesla Model 3. What trumps does the Seal have to lure Tesla fans out of their Model 3?

The fact that manufacturers of electric sedans want to make their cars as aerodynamic as possible results in models that are very similar. Especially from the side. Put the BYD Seal and the Tesla Model 3 one after the other, and you really have to look for the differences. The delivery program also has the necessary agreements. Both have a rear-wheel drive version and a four-wheel drive version. One with a lot, the other with a lot of power.

That calls for a comparison test! With our newsletter you know when it is available.

If we dive a little deeper into the specifications, there are indeed differences to be discovered. For example, the BYD Seal has a larger battery as standard, which is also free of nickel and cobalt. Also in terms of power, the BYD at the longest end, but the Tesla is again better at fast charging. Furthermore, the BYD Seal in the back seat seems to offer the most space.

BYD Seal more expensive and cheaper than Tesla Model 3

For the Dutch car buyer and lease customer, the price is of course also a major factor in the choice. You would expect the starting price of the Chinese to be slightly lower, but that is not the case. On the other hand, the rear-wheel drive BYD Seal has more range than the Tesla Model 3 RWD. With the four-wheel drive versions it is exactly the opposite. In any case, the Tesla seems to be more economical on paper than its direct opponent in both cases.
