Facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: the long-legged SUV is back

The hugely successful Volkswagen Tiguan was introduced in 2007, but only from the second generation (from 2016) came a long-wheelbase version, the Tiguan Allspace. This is the best-selling variant worldwide; more than 50 percent of Tiguan sales are an Allspace. Although that is not entirely fair compared to the regular Tiguan, because in many markets only the longer model is sold. In Europe - where both cars are available - the ratio is 80:20 in favor of the 'short' Tiguan.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace optional as a seven-seater

The facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has an 11 centimeter longer wheelbase, which not only gives the passengers in the second row of seats extra space, but also allows the use of a third row of seats. The Tiguan Allspace is therefore an optional seven-seater. Its luggage space is up to 1920 liters.

Deeper grille, different lights and more Touareg touches

If you look at the outside of the renewed Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, you will notice the impressive nose. The grille has been pulled deeper into the front bumper, making the Tiguan now looks like a small Touareg (the large SUV is no longer available in the Netherlands). The headlights are also different, with a more striking drawing of the daytime running lights and a backward-drawn line of 'eye-liner' à la Golf 8. At the rear we also see new light clusters, while the model name Tiguan is now spelled out in separate letters on the tailgate .

Dashboard Tiguan Allspace largely digitized

As with the Golf and the renewed Arteon, the interior of the Tiguan is also partly digitized. A large touchscreen is placed centrally in the dashboard, which largely takes over the tasks of traditional buttons. In addition, the Volkswagen Tiguan will receive the new MIB3 multimedia system, whereby the online functions have been further expanded. The safety equipment has also improved: the Tiguan is available with Travel Assist, which - with the help of the adaptive cruise control and active lane assistant - partly takes over the steering, acceleration and braking.

Choose from three petrol engines and two diesels

Volkswagen is marketing the Tiguan Allspace in three versions: as Life, Elegance and R-line. In terms of engine, there is currently a choice of three petrol engines (1.5 TSI with 150 hp and 2.0 TSI with 190 or 245 hp) and two diesels (2.0 TDI with 150 or 200 hp). The facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will not be on the market until October. What it will cost is not yet known.
