Fiat 500e production stop: simply too little demand for electric Fiat - AutoReview.nl

At the end of September 2023, production of the Fiat It's been quiet for a week now, but it doesn't stop there. From October 19 to November 3, 2023, no Fiat with a plug will once again roll out of the factory hall. This reports Automotive News Europe, which quotes a Stellantis spokesperson. The reason for this is the limited demand for the Fiat 500e.

Maserati production halted

Also four Maseratimodels – the Granturismo, Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte – are affected. They are also built at the Mirafiori factory in Turin and the situation at the Italian luxury brand is even more worrying. According to Automotive News, production of Maseratis was already interrupted for 58 (!) days in the first half of 2023. Here too, the cause is the severely disappointing demand. As many as 2,400 employees are affected by the production stop at the Mirafiori factory.

Fiat is not the only brand with disappointing demand for electric models. Volkswagen was previously forced to temporarily halt the production of two EVs. It's about the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Cupra Born, which are being built in Zwickau and Dresden. They have not rolled off the production line since October 2 and production will not start again in Zwickau until October 13. The restart at the Dresden factory also follows three days later.

Fiat does not give up and keeps hope for better times. The Fiat 600e was unveiled in September 2023 and the electric Fiat Panda will finally hit the market in July 2024.
