Since the soft-top convertible two-seat "MR-S" was discontinued in July 2007, Toyota has not launched a sports car. With the launch of "86" in April 2012, Toyota entered the sports car market again.
The 86 debuted with the slogan "Sports is culture." and aimed to become models like the AE86 "Sprinter Trueno" and "Corolla Levin".
This car can not only hone sports car driving skills, but also has a wealth of parts that can be modified. It is a car that can enjoy the fun of sports cars, so it is very popular in Japan and overseas markets.
The second-generation GR86 will be launched in October 2021. Although orders are now stopped on August 21, 2022 due to insufficient semiconductors and production delays, the sales performance has already greatly exceeded the monthly target sales of 700 units.
As mentioned earlier, the abundance of modified parts is also one of the charms of the "86".
Like the AE86 and the previous generation 86, many manufacturers have launched many modified concepts before the GR86 was launched, and after that, various parts manufacturers have also launched a variety of modified parts.
There are car body kits that are premised on track driving and that focus on performance, as well as car body kits that can be changed to look like supercars launched by other car manufacturers, and car body kits that focus on appearance. There are various modified parts to choose from. Create a unique 86 according to your own preferences.
In addition to the large manufacturers such as HKS, BLITZ, TRUST, etc., which have launched these 86 exclusive modified parts, other small manufacturers have also launched them. Overseas parts factories also produce modified parts for the GR86.
The GR86, created by ADRO (Aerodynamic Development Race Optimizatio), a California-specific aerodynamic kit manufacturer that designs custom body kits, is equipped with accessories that increase body downforce and improve cornering performance.
ADRO is a brand composed of designers responsible for the design of high-end car brand concept cars, as well as technicians such as the former WilliamsF1 aerodynamic engineer. It can be said to be a group of aerodynamic experts.
The GR86 equipped with the ADRO wide-body kit has an explosive turtle design at the front and rear. The front is about 13cm wider and the rear is about 15cm wider.
The front and rear bumpers are designed in a shape that can generate downforce on the car body, and the appearance is comparable to that of a supercar. The GT rear wing set on the trunk adopts a swan neck rear wing, which can generate about 113kg of downforce at 117km/h.
ADRO has launched a total of 8 types of GR86 body parts, which are expected to go on sale in November 2022.
