In mid-April, Ford unveiled an interesting study model at the Shanghai auto show: the Ford Evos. The crossover between a sedan, hatchback and SUV seemed like a possible Mondeo successor to us, but according to Ford America PR boss Mike Levine, the upcoming production version of the Evos is only intended for China.
But seeing this camouflaged Ford, we no longer believe the man. The car was spotted by our spy photographer in Germany and clearly has Evos design traits. In fact, the nose design is almost identical. The model is lower to the tarmac than the Evos and also has a real sedan roofline (it could also be a liftback).
It is not yet certain when this Ford will be on the market and what it will be called, but it seems a foregone conclusion that the Ford Mondeo will get a sedan as its successor. The current Mondeo is based on the American Ford Fusion. In the United States, Ford only supplies the Fusion and Mustang as 'traditional' models. The rest are SUVs and pick-ups.
