●Apply for a patent for a suspected GR GT3 Concept
●No huge rear wing = commercial model?
● Joint development with Mazda? Also looking forward to the arrival of the RX-9
On May 16, 2022, Toyota announced its patent-pending vehicle design. The application has been in progress since December last year.
From the design point of view, the car is related to the "GR GT3 Concept" exhibited at the Tokyo Modified Auto Show 2022. But the patented blueprint differs decisively from the GR GT3 Concept.
The decisive difference is the rear design. The GR GT3 Concept is pictured above, with a huge rear wing at the rear, but not on the patent design.
The GR GT3 Concept is a concept car developed for racers who aim to participate in the highest peak GT3 race of Customer Motorsports, so the patent applied for this time may be a commercial model of the concept car. If the car does go on sale, it should become a more advanced Flagship sports model than the GR Supra.
It is rumored that a commercial model of the GR GT3 Concept may be co-developed with Mazda.
In foreign countries, the design similarity between the GR GT3 Concept and the Mazda concept car "RX-VISION" has become a topic. The RX-VISION adopts a long nose & short deck design ratio and was released in 2015 as a supercar concept car equipped with the next-generation rotary engine "SKYACTIV-R". Due to the fact that it is equipped with a rotary engine, it is speculated that the car name of the commercially available model will be called "RX-9", but there is no conclusive information from the manufacturer yet.
If the GR GT3 Concept commercial car is really co-developed with Mazda, it is quite expected that Mazda will launch a sibling car that shares the same base, the RX-9.
