Kia EV2: Kia's cheap electric car of 28,500 euros - AutoReview.nl

In the press release of the new models, Kia talks about its plan to develop an extensive EV range with prices between $30,000 and $80,000. We find the base price of 30,000 dollars or 28,500 euros particularly interesting.

But that nice price tag does not apply to the EV3, EV4 or EV5, because Kia says prices for those models range from 35,000 (!) to 50,000 dollars. The logical conclusion is that the EV2 will become the electric car of 30,000 dollars or 28,500 euros. And Kia has apparently already registered that model name.

Kia EV2 competitors

At a price of 28,500 euros, the EV2 will be a slightly more expensive alternative to the many electric models of approximately 25,000 euros that several car brands are working on. Like the Volkswagen ID.2the Citroën e-C3 and the Renault 5.

An affordable price (by EV standards) does not have to mean that you bite the bullet. Just look at the Dolphin WORLD, which is now for sale from 29,990 euros. With a 60.4-kWh battery (427 km), adaptive cruise control and a heat pump, that car actually offers everything a person needs.

Platform of EV3 and EV4

Since BYD sets the bar quite high, we wouldn't be surprised if the Kia EV2 ends up on the same platform as the larger and more expensive EV3 and EV4. That 'normal' works with 400 volts, so you can probably count on super-fast charging like with the Kia EV6 (800 V).

The platform can be equipped with one or two electric motors, although cheap EVs generally only have one. AutoExpress is thinking out loud about a sporty EV2 GT model that may have two electric motors and four-wheel drive.

The British website also reports that the Kia EV2 will be released in 2027. Logically, after the arrival of the EV3 and EV4 - cars of which Kia has unveiled the study models. We haven't seen anything of the EV2 yet. The image above this post is a crop of the EV3. The new Be EV5 is the only completed car of this trio and is scheduled for 2024.

So you have to wait another four years for the arrival of the Kia EV2. In the meantime, other car brands are launching their affordable EVs, so you have to be a very brand-loyal Kia driver not to spend your savings at another dealer before then...
