Come on designed the EV5 for millennial families. I was born between 1981 and 1996, so the electric SUV should meet all my requirements and expectations. Let's dive into the matter.
As a demanding millennial, I am disappointed by the low charging capacity of Kia's current electric SUV, the Kia Niro EV. I want fast charging with 230 kW, as in the Let's EV6! But Kia is not yet releasing anything about the charging capacities of the EV5.
But since the EV5 comes with a battery pack of 64 or 88 kWh, it should be able to charge faster than a Niro EV. Otherwise the largest battery will not be full after an hour. And it's on the E-GMP platform that supports super-fast charging. So it will be fine.
Kia promises us that the EV5 has one pedal drive and the energy-efficient heat pump system of the EV6. This cools or heats the occupants and the battery – both perform better as a result.
Millennials stare at screens all day and the EV5 feeds our pixel addiction. As in many Kias, the dashboard contains two widescreen displays, one for the instruments and the other for the multimedia.
New is the addition of a third display: a 5-inch climate control display. It is located between the other two screens, so you always have the climate control at your fingertips. Fortunately, my sharp millennial eyes also see physical switches for the temperature in the interior photos.
Kia gives the EV5 newly designed menus that make the EV-specific functions easier to use. I'm curious to know what you notice in practice, because most EV functions are quite easy to find in Kia's electric models.
Millennials apparently eat too little meat, because there is not enough leather available to cover the interior of the EV5. That must be the reason why Kia chooses linings made from recycled PET bottles.
We are also approaching our forties and to prevent back and spinal problems, Kia installs multi-adjustable seats with a continuously adjustable back angle. Massage chairs are available at an additional cost.
Although we haven't reached afternoon nap age yet, you can transform the interior of the EV5 into a bedroom. Then you fold the second row of seats completely flat. You can transform the hat shelf into a table. To keep your drinks cool or warm, Kia comes with a kind of refrigerator with a temperature range of 5 to 55 degrees. With a capacity of 4 liters, it is probably just big enough to keep the rice in your takeaway poke bowl lukewarm.

Kia unveils the EV5 together with two concept cars: the Kia EV3 and Kia EV4. Prices range from $35,000 to $50,000. We assume that the EV5 is the most expensive of the bunch and at current exchange rates that amounts to 47,000 euros.
Kia has not yet announced a launch date. The best indication for now is sometime in 2024.
