Mercedes follows Tesla with its own fast chargers and pleases Mercedes drivers with these benefits - AutoReview.nl

At the beginning of this year, Mercedes announced that it would set up its own charging network à la Tesla. The first charging station will open in October 2023. You just have to drive a long way for that. A long way even...

Isn't it great that Mercedes is setting up its own charging network just like Tesla? Don't cheer too soon, because the Netherlands will have to wait a while. Do you want you SKIP of EQS charge at a Mercedes fast charging station, then you will have to drive to Mannheim in Germany. Or to Atlanta (United States) or Chengdu (China). These three cities get the scoop. Nevertheless, the station in Mannheim is already good news, because Mercedes previously indicated that the fast charging stations would only be installed in the US. The three charging stations will open in October 2023.

Mercedes, Tesla and all other brands are included in our free newsletter!

Prepared for the future

At the Mercedes fast charging parks, fast charging is possible up to a capacity of 400 kW. At the moment, even the fastest charging EV does not reach those kinds of figures, but with this charging capacity, the fast charging stations are ready for the electric cars of the future. The stations are also prepared for all kinds of EVs, as they can be charged with 4 charging systems (CCS1, CCS2, NACS and GB/T).

Other brands are also welcome

This also means that the Mercedes charging stations can be used by drivers of other car brands. But the Mercedes driver has the last laugh when he pays. In January, Mercedes already announced that foreign brand drivers pay a higher rate than people with an EV from Mercedes. Furthermore, the Mercedes driver can reserve a charging station in advance.

Just the beginning

The fast charging stations in Atlanta, Mannheim and Chengdu are just the beginning. Mercedes has big plans to set up a global fast charging network. By the end of 2024, the brand wants to have more than 2,000 fast charging stations in use, in 2030 this number must have grown to more than 10,000 stations.

The US, China and Europe are given priority. There is therefore a good chance that you will soon be able to charge your electric Mercedes at a fast charging station with a star in your area.
