Only you and we hope that the new Toyota Camry (2024) comes to the Netherlands -

The American branch of Toyota has unveiled the new Toyota Camry (2024). The middle class sedan cannot be towed there, while in the Netherlands the towing is done with the customers. By their hair.

If an American wants to drive a mid-size sedan that is economical and reliable, he buys a Toyota Camry. This happens about 300,000 times a year. In the Netherlands, the current, eighth generation of the Camry was only sold 115 times in its first and best sales year.

So to say that the hybrid sedan is not popular with us is an understatement. Logically, because the Dutch want SUVs and station wagons – not sedans. And if we choose a sedan, it must be of German origin.

Toyota Camry (2024): hybrid with 2 or 3 electric motors

The fact that we at Auto Review have a soft spot for the Camry partly has to do with its local scarcity: it is a more original choice than a Volkswagen passat. Moreover, it is very economical (without plugging in) and comfortable. A practical station wagon variant would of course be welcome, but that is precisely a body shape that Americans do not like. And they actually buy the Camry…

The ninth generation Camry is always hybrid, which means that the V6 has been removed from the US price list. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors sends 225 hp to the front wheels. There is also an AWD version with a third electric motor at the rear axle. For those keeping count, this is the fifth generation of Toyota's hybrid system.

The Camry is once again on the TNGA-K platform, but Toyota has overhauled the suspension and braking system for better handling and more comfort.

Stalking a Dutch Toyota importer

The new Toyota Carmy looks quite similar to its predecessor, which also had such a large mouth. But the headlights and the overhanging hood are clearly copied from the new one Toyota Prius and give the sedan a modern look.

The interior has improved by leaps and bounds. The previous dashboard made a strange sway and had antique instruments. The new interior looks sleek, symmetrical and modern. We see a nice wide touchscreen with a physical knob for the volume and a row of real buttons underneath. The red interior trim is undoubtedly optional, but we are quite willing to pay extra for it. But then Toyota has to bring the new Camry to the Netherlands...

The new Toyota Camry will hit the American market in the spring of 2024. In the meantime, we will stalk the Dutch importer.

Toyota has sold so few copies of the Camry in the Netherlands in recent years that it does not make financial sense to bring the new Camry to our country. In any case, Toyota sees little point in sedans, because when the Corolla received a facelift last year, the Corolla Sedan was removed from the price list.
