Peugeot's motorsport branch gave the 508 PSE a combustion engine and two electric motors. Together they are good for 360 hp and 520 Nm. The Volkswagen Passat GTE with its 218 hp and 250 Nm can never compete with that. But that is also a competitor for Peugeot's conventional 50 grand plug-in hybrid. The 508 PSE is a different story. It is sporty with four-wheel drive, adaptive shock absorbers, colorful accents and 20-inch wheels. Our first thought when we heard the price was 'Pfff, what a ridiculous amount of money'. But if you look at the 3-series and the S60, it is at most 6000 euros too expensive. Then we optimistically assume that a Peugeot may cost as much as a BMW or a Volvo.
Total: 70,870 euros
The BMW 545e xDrive flattens the Peugeot with its six cylinders, 394 hp and 600 Nm. And with a base price of 74,629 euros, it is hardly more expensive. But then you are shopping in a segment that is too high. The 3-series closest to the 508 PSE is the four-cylinder 330e xDrive with 292 hp and 420 Nm of 58,162 euros. You have to dress it up sporty yourself, otherwise you'll drive very well.
Total: 64,301 euros
The French have Peugeot Sport Engineered, the Swedes have Polestar Engineered. The eponymous version of the Volvo S60 is 405 hp and 670 Nm strong and costs 63,995 euros. The concept is the same: a very sporty version with thick rims, colored brake calipers and a specification list with a lot of sporty jargon. You have to manually adjust the Öhlins dampers.
Total: 64,785 euros
In the Audi range there is a large, plug-free gap between the A3 and the A6. An A4 PHEV simply does not exist. Mercedes is waiting for its turn with the 313 hp and 550 Nm strong C300e. But to leave a part of this page blank is also something. The Audi S4 is also very strong, but slightly more expensive, because the six-cylinder turbo diesel costs 26,000 euros in bpm.
