Colleague Wouter enjoyed the Alpine A110R, but also writes that it is better to buy the 40,000 euro cheaper GT version. That sounds like a bargain. But is that it?
The GT version is the cheapest Alpine A110 with 300 hp. Below that is only the normal one Alpine A110 with 252 hp and we think that is a bit poor for a sports car. The GT also has larger wheels (18 inches), bigger brake calipers and an active exhaust system. Three things that make every sports car better. What further distinguishes the A110GT from the regular ones is the handy reversing camera and the better audio system.
A list of options is slowly emerging that should match the other four-cylinder sports cars in our price comparison. None of these four cars can be called a bargain, but price-conscious buyers will first test drive at Alpine or Toyota.

The 300 hp and 380 Nm strong Porsche 718 Cayman seems the perfect counterpart to the Alpine, but Porsche has a completely different pricing policy. The car itself is more expensive and everything has an additional cost. The active sports exhaust is not on the regular Cayman, but it is on the Cayman S. If you really want it, then you will be in the same boat as the Lotus Emira below in terms of price and performance.

Not yet ready for the switch to electric driving?
With Private Lease you can get into the iconic Fiat 500 Hybrid from just €279 per month.
Of Toyota GR Supra 2.0 has less power, but more torque than the A110 GT. It takes a second longer to complete the standard sprint, but that comes with a friendlier price tag. It's a shame that the active sports exhaust is reserved for the more expensive six-cylinder GR Supra 3.0, but there has to be a difference. Furthermore, the Toyota and the Alpine are on the same page in terms of equipment.

Earlier this year we marveled at the Lotus Emira V6 (test), but it is also available with a very strong four-cylinder from AMG. With 360 hp and 430 Nm, it can keep up with the Alpine A110 GT in the standard sprint. The First Edition costs a fortune, but it fully meets our needs. And the Lotus Emira i4 is not on 18-inch but on 20-inch alloy.
