We have been keeping an eye on the MG5 Electric for a while, because we do see something in a fully electric station wagon. Thanks to the large and practical trunk, this could be the most useful EV of all. That comes with a sober price tag.
Because the Dutch prices of the MG5 Electric start at 33,985 euros, while at the unveiling it was promised that "prices start below 30,000 euros"! Logically, we were looking forward to a base price of 29,995 euros. But the final price is 4 grand higher.
When a car brand pulls such a trick, you immediately suspect them of shady practices. Does MG think the 3350 euro purchase subsidy for which the MG5 qualifies, unseen into its own pocket? By putting the car on the market more expensive in advance? We've probably seen too many spy movies and thrillers.
Now that we've got the grumbles out of our system, it's time for the prices and features:

The Standard Range has a 50.3 kWh battery and a range of 320 kilometers. The Long Range doesn't even get that much further: 400 kilometers. The battery pack has a capacity of 61.1 kWh. Both versions have a 3-phase on-board charger that supports 11 kW charging. Fast charging is possible with a maximum of 87 kW.
By the way, MG uses two different battery types – each chemical composition has its own advantages and disadvantages. Maybe we should dig into that again.
The Comfort version is the downright rich basic version with 16-inch wheels, fabric upholstery, air conditioning, LED lighting, heated seats and an extensive safety system including adaptive cruise control. The Luxury is 1500 euros more expensive and has 17-inch wheels, leather upholstery, climate control and a 360-degree camera.
The MG5 Electric will arrive at the Dutch MG Brand Stores in March.
