The new generation of Subaru WRX (VB model) was finally officially released in September 2021 last year, and the US-spec models are also on sale. Although I haven’t heard the news of the introduction of the domestic general agent, there are already many Taiwanese car owners with great powers. A brand new Subaru WRX was purchased from abroad and came to Taiwan, and started the road of modification and strengthening. Let's first take a look at the differences of the new generation of WRX.

Engine upgrade to FA24F

The chassis structure has not changed much

The new fifth-generation WRX was finally officially unveiled in September 2012. The exterior retains the car's open-hole hood and the classic design of the hexagonal water tank guard. The rear line includes the taillight design, but it has a new model With the shadow of the BRZ, the whole car has become more neat and dynamic. Of course, if the black edge anti-scratch trim on the front and rear fenders can be changed to the same color as the body, it should be more textured.

The chassis part adopts the newly developed Subaru Global Platform-SGP modular platform design. Compared with the old WRX, the front and rear suspension is still the front MacPherson and rear multi-link design. The overall structural design is not very large. However, the rigidity of the new chassis has increased compared to the old model. The torsional rigidity has increased by 28%, the rigidity of the shock absorber fixing point has also been strengthened by 75%, and the center of gravity of the vehicle has been lowered.

Of course, the most exciting change in the new WRX is the change in engine specifications. The engine is changed from the FA20 to the FA24F turbocharged engine with a displacement of 2387 cc. To achieve the purpose of increasing the displacement, the cylinder bore x stroke is 94x86mm, and the compression ratio of both is 10.6:1. The maximum horsepower of FA24F can reach 271hp/5600rpm, and the maximum torque is 35.6kgm/2000-4800rpm. There are two types of transmissions, namely, a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed manual mode CVT automatic transmission. This CVT transmission is also equipped with an additional transmission oil cooler to reduce the high temperature during intense driving.

Looking closely at the configuration of the intake pipe of the new WRX, it can be found that although the position of the intake IC pipe (supercharger pipe) remains unchanged, in order to strengthen the heat insulation effect, the outside of the pipe has been covered with many soft materials. In the past, the aluminum alloy IP pipe that WRX owners often replaced was also directly changed from the old plastic steel material to aluminum alloy material. Helps reduce intake air temperature.

This car was imported from the Dimak factory in China, which specializes in the development/manufacturing of Subaru aerodynamic kits. At present, a lot of carbon fiber aerodynamic kits have been installed, including front and lower spoilers, left and right side skirts, duck tails and rear undercarriage.
