Renault Scenic E-Tech (2024): trusted name, but you don't recognize the car itself - AutoReview.nl

The Renault Scenic was once marketed as an MPV with a combustion engine. The now unveiled Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is completely different. No longer an MPV, but an SUV. And fully electric. Still, it makes sense that this new Renault is also called Scenic again.

The model name Scenic stands for Safety Concept Embodied in a New Innovative Car. We can absolutely not remember that from the first Scenic from 1996, but we believe Renault on its blue eyes. That way you can apply the model name Scenic until the end of days. 'Families change, as do their travel habits and their views on the environment and safety. And the Scenic has always changed with them,” says Renault about this.

Fully electric SUV

Enough marketing chatter. The new Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is therefore a fully electric SUV. With a WLTP range of 620 kilometers (high range) or 420 kilometers (standard range). The electric motor delivers 170 hp (standard range) or 220 hp (high range). The battery also differs: the standard version has 60 kWh, while the high range has a model with 87 kWh. Fast charging is possible with 130 and 150 kW respectively. A 3-phase 22 kW AC on-board charger is standard.

Renault Scenic: up to 1670 liters of luggage space

The Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is 4.47 m long, 1.86 m wide and 1.57 m high. The wheelbase is 2.79 m. That is the same as the also new one Smart #3 has and 10 cm more than the Renault Megane E-Tech. The luggage space is 545 liters and can be expanded to 1670 liters if you fold the rear seats. There are also storage spaces throughout the interior that together account for 38.7 liters. The electric SUV has 19 or 20-inch wheels.

The extensive infotainment runs on Android Automotive OS 12. You can choose from more than 50 apps via Google Play, including of course Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The instrument panel measures 12.3 inches while the upright central screen measures 12 inches.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is available in six exterior colours:

  • flame red
  • night blue
  • starry black
  • shale gray metallic
  • glacier white
  • gris schiste satin (exclusive for the Esprit Alpine version)

Leather upholstery? Forget it

Depending on the version, a two-tone paint is possible, with the roof and roof pillars in noir étoilé or gris schiste metallic in combination with a different body color. Leather upholstery is not possible due to its unsustainable nature. Renault says that leather will completely disappear from the delivery program by 2025.

No leather fits the sustainable character that Renault attributes to the new Scenic. Renault uses recycled fibers for the seat covers. According to Renault, the material offers a comparable quality and experience to real leather, says Renault. The map pockets consist of 45 percent recycled fibers and the floor mats of 54 percent recycled plastic bottles.

Made from waste

The new Renault Scenic then no longer has real leather, but still has a glass panoramic roof, with the name Solarbay. With the help of electric fields, the roof can be completely or partially darkened. You can choose from four settings: completely light, completely opaque, light at the front and darkened at the back, and vice versa. Part of the roof is made of recycled flat glass and old car windows.

The new Renault Scenic E-Tech electric is expected to be available from early 2024. Prices are yet to be announced.
