Up to and including May, caravan and motorhome companies sold a total of 1,655 new and 7,677 used motorhomes. In both cases this is more than 60 percent more than in the same period last year. The Netherlands has traditionally been a caravan country, but now the number of second-hand motorhomes sold is higher than the number of used caravans sold (6640 units, plus 25 percent compared to 2020).
According to the Bovag, most Dutch people choose to stay at a campsite this summer. The Netherlands currently has more caravans and motorhomes than ever before. On June 1, there were exactly 568,722 registered. That is 17,500 more than a year and a half ago. In addition, the 150,000th motorhome was registered in May (caravans are still by far in the majority). Ten years ago, that number was less than half.
