We recently showed the Opel Manta A, an electric restomod, electrified by Opel itself. This was an Opel Manta A with an electric powertrain and the same modern nose as the new Opel Mokka and the renewed Grandland.
We really liked the yellow restomod and the hope was that Opel would continue to follow the chosen path with the official new Opel Manta. But when we look at the images that Opel has released after the announcement of Lohsteller, we lose heart.
The green and white car that Opel is now showing does not resemble the old Manta or the restomod anymore. It's more of a suv coupe with hugely extended fenders and sills. According to Opel, it wants to give its models more emotion in the future, in order to clearly distinguish them from the competition. With its iconic name and appearance, the Manta should become one of the textbook examples. The question is whether Opel releases the right emotions with the proposed model.
But we keep hope. The fine print at the bottom of the computer animation of the green-and-white electro-Manta states in English that the "image is not representative of the series model." Let's just hope so...
