Test BMW iX3, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Mercedes EQC: This is the most comfortable large electric SUV

To assess the comfort of the BMW iX3, the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Mercedes EQC, we look at the interior space, seating comfort, interior noise and suspension comfort. Let's get started quickly.

Interior: BMW iX3 takes the lead

The oversized electric SUVs are neatly aligned in terms of size. Ford has given the Mustang Mach-E a long wheelbase of almost 3 meters, which gives you enough freedom of movement in the front and rear seats. The Mach-E also has a compact center tunnel between the front seats, while in the iX3 you are stuck with the legroom costing legacy of the X3.

Yet the BMW iX3 is a fraction more spacious than the electric Ford. This is mainly due to its 4 centimeters higher cabin. The trunk is also larger: 510 to 1560 liters (iX3) versus 402 to 1420 liters for the Mustang Mach-E.

In the Mercedes EQC, your right leg leans against a wide center tunnel, just like in the iX3. The slightly narrower cabin and the small windows give you the feeling of driving in a cozy but somewhat cramped cocoon.

Seating comfort and interior noise: neck and neck

In the Ford Mustang Mach-E, you sit on a generously sized and soft-touch driver's seat. If only the designers had put as much time and effort into soundproofing, because the Mach-E lags slightly behind its competitors in that area.

In the BMW iX3 you get the least of wind and rolling noises. The fact that our test car is a High Executive version with sports seats certainly does not affect the seating comfort. The sporty furniture is extensively adjustable and we like the lateral support.

We are also very satisfied with the optional multicontour seats with adjustable lumbar support in the Mercedes EQC. In his cab it is almost as quiet as in the BMW.

Spring comfort: Mercedes EQC unbeatable

As far as the suspension comfort is concerned, no test car has anything to say against the Mercedes EQC. Although you clearly feel that you are driving a heavy car (2.5 tons), the EQC rolls smoothly and smoothly over most bumps. The slight slump has a calming effect on the driver.

The adaptive chassis of the BMW iX3 wakes it up spontaneously. Although the tuning is predominantly sporty in the basics, the chassis resolutely smoothes out small and large imperfections. And after a bump or pothole, the body does not move longer than strictly necessary.

The Mustang Mach-E is a comfortable mile-eater. Apart from the annoying transverse ridges you know from the German autobahn, there are few asphalt inconveniences that bring the electric Ford off the leg.

Conclusion

Of these three, the BMW iX3 is the most comfortable large electric SUV. It has a spacious, quiet cabin and a high-quality suspension comfort. But if we're honest, the difference with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Mercedes EQC is not that big.
