An ESP programmed by a control freak, a firmly leaning body and a clear tendency to slide the front wheels out of the bend… Those are not the ideal ingredients for sporty handling. Unfortunately, Mercedes mixed them into a syrupy cocktail at the GLA 250e. This makes the car feel as much at home on winding mountain roads as a transgender person in Afghanistan.
No, then the Cupra Formentor; despite an own weight of around 1700 kilos, this is just a pleasant driving car. Even if you do not only drive on dead straight polder roads. The steering is more direct, the front wheels have more grip and the Spaniard stays neutral for much longer when cornering. The Spanish crowning glory in this chapter is the excellent result on the braking test. From 100 km/h, the Formentor comes to a standstill after 33.7 meters with cold brakes, the GLA needs 2.6 meters more.

Do you like a high entry and a soft suspension? And do you mainly drive on straight polder roads with a few e-bikes on the tow bar? Then you will feel at home in the excellently finished Mercedes GLA 250e.
The Cupra Formentor 1.4 TSI e-Hybrid seems to be targeting a somewhat younger audience than the Mercedes GLA 250e. That starts with the design and the lower seating position. The much tighter driving characteristics mean that the S of SUV is more appropriate with the Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid than with the Mercedes GLA 250e. Unless when you think of sports you think of jeu de boules, checkers or darts.
