Gasp, the Maserati GranTurismo no longer has an atmospheric V8, but a V6. That's a bit of a swallow for the enthusiasts. Or is minestrone soup not eaten as hot as it is served?
The sour apple that Maserati enthusiasts have to bite through is just a petite apple. Because for the two cylinders that the Maserati GranTurismo has lost, you get two turbos back. In addition, the V6 comes from the super sports car Maserati MC20, although it delivers more power (630 hp versus 550 hp).
The interior of the Maserati GranTurismo has clearly improved. The eye-catcher is the large 'broken' central touchscreen, actually two superimposed displays of 12.3 and 8.8 inches. The instruments are fully digital, just like the traditional Maserati clock in the center of the dashboard. Fortunately, you can set it so that it looks like it is analog, otherwise we would have gotten out.

We depart from a typical Italian street full of potholes. On such a surface it comes in handy that you can raise the Maserati GranTurismo a bit. Once we approach the autostrada, we happily switch to Sport mode. We press the accelerator deeper and with a sound that is music to the ears of car enthusiasts, the Italian coupe shoots ahead.
The Trofeo is the stronger of the two V6 versions offered by Maserati. The other is the Modena, which is 60 hp less powerful, but still delivers an impressive 490 hp. Zero to 100 km/h takes just 3.5 seconds. But also from the intermediate accelerations your mouth falls open in surprise. If you drive on the German autobahn, you could reach 320 km / h.

The Maserati GranTurismo also feels in its element on winding roads in the hills of the beautiful Tuscan landscape. It is precisely here that the Italian coupé benefits from its standard four-wheel drive with a differential on the front axle that is deliberately positioned in line with the engine. The result is an excellent 52:48 weight distribution that provides balanced handling.
Especially in fast corners, the Maserati GranTurismo makes driving great, to quote a slogan from a Munich brand. There is hardly any understeer.
The new Maserati GranTurismo convinces with its well-balanced chassis. Saying goodbye to the atmospheric V8 is by no means hard for us; with the new V6 twin-turbo petrol engine, every ride is a pleasure. A car that you keep dreaming about, also because it is very expensive.
