A fully electric Aston Martin is not yet available, but the brand is fully committed to hybrid technology. The spectacular Aston Martin Valkyrie uses a high-revving V12 with electro-assisted power to produce more than 1000 horsepower. The same goes for the model just below: the Aston Martin Valhalla.
The most successful car in Aston Martin's range is the DBX. The supreme SUV outsells all the other Aston Martins put together and hopefully will see the small British manufacturer return to profitability soon. In the first half year, 1595 DBXs left the assembly line. The Vantage and DB11/DBS got no further than 670 and 610.
The Aston Martin DBX uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from Mercedes-AMG with 550 hp and 770 Nm. It reaches a top speed of just under 300 km/h and goes to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The hybrid version will go even further. The model - which is now running its rounds on the Nordschleife - is said to be between 700 and 800 hp.
There's only one thing you can tell from these spy photos that you're dealing with the Aston Martin DBX Hybrid. The yellow sticker on the rear window is an obligation of the Nürburgring fire brigade. If a prototype catches fire, the fire service needs to know whether it has an electric or electrified powertrain. Burning batteries require a different extinguishing method.
As mentioned, the Aston Martin DBX Hybrid will probably get a maximum 800 hp hybrid powertrain, with a V8 from Mercedes-AMG and an electric motor. In time, there would also be a less powerful hybrid version, with a six-cylinder and an electric motor.
