The CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume, is convinced that Volkswagen will succeed in developing a cheap electric car costing 20,000 euros. But don't think that this electric Volkswagen will be for sale anytime soon.
An electric Volkswagen with a new price of 20,000 euros. According to the renowned news service Reuters The green light for this has not yet been officially given, but CEO Oliver Blume is convinced that it will happen. We think so too. Citroën after all, it already has a cheaper version of it Citroën ë-C3 announced. It will cost 19,990 euros and will be on the market in 2025.
The new Fiat 500
Discover the city in style. Get into the 100% electric Fiat 500 from €359 per month and benefit from €2950 government subsidy.
Also Renault doesn't sit still. The French brand has announced that the new Twingo will be electric, cost less than 20,000 euros and will be on the market in 2026. Then of course Volkswagen cannot lag behind. Believe us: that Volkswagen EV costing 20,000 euros will definitely get the green light from the board and will be built. The only question is when.
According to Blume, you should not count on 2025 or 2026, but should think of the end of this decade. So we are talking about at least 2028, but even that may be too early. Why so slow? If Citroën and Renault succeed, then it should be a piece of cake for Volkswagen. We are talking about the second largest car manufacturer in the world.

The challenge is the cost of the battery, Blume says. They have to come down. Volkswagen believes it can achieve this with uniform battery cells that can be used in multiple models. Volkswagen even talks about 80 percent of all EV models.
These battery cells will be put into production from 2025. In this way, Volkswagen hopes to reduce costs by half. “We have a responsibility to bring the right products to market at the right price.”
Blume also says that consumers need to be convinced more than ever to drive electric. "The early adopters now all drive electric. Now we have to convince other consumers. Motorists without a charging point at home, for example. But the lack of charging structure is holding back demand, as is inflation and the abolition of subsidies."
By the way, you don't have to wait as long for an electric Volkswagen costing 25,000 euros. Volkswagen will launch the production version of the Volkswagen ID.2all in 2025. It'll probably work Volkswagen ID.2 to be named.
Although there are also rumors that the car may be offered with a regular name such as Polo or Golf. That seems much smarter to us; Now that all early adopters drive an ID model, we must continue with model names that sound familiar to the public. Please let's call the 20,000 electric Volkswagen Up or Polo and not ID.1.
