● Demonstrate the brand's commitment to Fun Car
●Prove that driving fun will still be valued in the future
●Currently there is no mass production plan
On the occasion of announcing the mid-term management plan update report and basic management policies, Mazda also released a concept car called Vision Study Model. First of all, Mazda expects that by 2030, it will still maintain the established direction and continue to promote the brand to achieve the goal of comprehensive carbon neutrality in 2050. To this end, Mazda will launch more new electric vehicles, hoping to make electric vehicle sales account for about 25% to 40% by 2030.
Although the Vision Study Model exposed this time does not occupy too much space, strictly speaking, it is not the protagonist of the event, so the original factory did not spend too much space and time to introduce it in detail. This concept car appeared in the last 5 minutes of the online press conference video. The first one appeared was the current generation of ND MX-5, followed by the exposure of the Vision Study Model. Mazda did not show the real car, so it can be confirmed that the Vision Study Model is only a design concept electric drawing work.
Although some opinions believe that since the Vision Study Model debuted after the MX-5 and is a two-door sports car, it may be regarded as the prototype of the next-generation MX-5, or the design direction. However, whether it is from official information or other sources, there is not enough evidence to show that the Vision Study Model is related to the next-generation MX-5. As a preview of the design direction of the brand towards the electrification transformation period, it may be a more reliable guess. The Vision Coupe Concept released by Mazda in the past is an example. This concept car has not been mass-produced, or it has become the leading design of the current mass-produced car.
Moreover, the Vision Coupe Concept is an out-and-out two-door sports car, which is still somewhat different from the MX-5 two-door convertible setting. Mazda said that the Vision Coupe Concept is more like the brand’s commitment to the Fun Car road, so it’s not entirely correct to say that it has nothing to do with the MX-5. It is still unknown whether this concept car can become the nourishment of future electric sports cars, but at least it conveys the message that Mazda still does not pay attention to driving pleasure in the future, which is enough to reassure many car fans.
