● bZ SDN is the next generation Crown?
●Toyota said "Crown FF is due to electrification"
●Looks to have nothing to do with bZ SDN, Lexus sedans
In June 2022, the new-generation Crown grade, power system, interior and exterior colors and options have been released. The detailed design of the remaining car has not yet been mentioned.
The latest information shows that the Crown adopts a two-color design for the first time, and the color of the hood is also different, which is similar to the design of Lexus "RC F".
This time, we will use this as a basis to predict the electrification of Crown.
Including the current model, the driving method of Crown in all generations is rear-wheel drive (FR), but the news received this time indicates that it will be changed to FF-based four-wheel drive (4WD) in the next generation.
In an interview, a Toyota dealer said that Toyota related personnel had revealed during the training that "the Crown will be BEV in the future, so it will be a 4WD with FF as the base."
However, the new Crown announced this month only has two power systems: "2.4L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline-electric hybrid" and "2.5L inline 4-cylinder gasoline-electric hybrid".
In other words, the possibility of Crown adding BEV models in the future is quite high.
At present, the popularity of BEVs is not high, and the sales of sedans in Japan are getting worse.
Assuming it is related to other BEV models, which one of the 17 concept cars released in December last year? If we go further, among the 17 models, only "bZ SDN" and "Lexus Electrified Sedan" are two. The model is a sedan. Both cars are global sales models, which are different from the positioning of the Japanese exclusive model Crown.
The bZ SDN and the Electrified Sedan might become siblings like the "Toyota bZ4X" and "Lexus RZ" if you were to compare them, but it's hard to imagine them being related to the Crown. After much deliberation, I still feel that Crown is more likely to add a BEV power system in the future.
Crown went from abolishing rumors to an SUV-style resurrection in a blink of an eye, and then it was rumored that the FR would be abolished, and so on.
Everyone also predicts that the Crown will undergo a major facelift in the near future.
