Suzuki's Indian subsidiary "Maruti Suzuki India" has started the development of the Jimny Long 5-door model since June 2020. So far, it has received many sightings of the Jimny Long 5-door model.
Local media referred to the Jimny Long 5-door model as the "5-door Maruti Jimny". A while ago, the appearance of Maruti Jimny's new test was exposed.
On October 1, 2022, the 5-door Maruti Jimny seems to have entered the stage of weathering test and off-road road driving test. At the same time, the camouflaged 5-door Maruti Jimny was also captured driving on mountain roads together with Suzuki's SUV Grand Vitara sold in India and other regions.
Due to the long wheelbase, the minimum ground clearance height is raised to ensure the ground clearance. It is reported that it is about 300mm longer than the Tata Sierra with a total length of 4,410mm. If the information is true, the overall length of the 5-door Jimny is about 4,700mm.
The power system is of course 4WD! Will it also set up a gasoline-electric hybrid?
No other spec details are available yet. The most promising part of the power system is the 1.5L Dual Jet Engine (dual injector design engine) also adopted by Grand Vitara.
It is speculated that the K15C inline 4-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 103PS and a maximum torque of 13.7kgf･m will be used, paired with a 5-speed MT and a 6-speed AT, and drive the four wheels through an auxiliary reducer and Suzuki "AllGrip AWD".
It is speculated that it will add light oil-electric hybrid power and new interior design, as well as expand the size of the multi-function touch screen and add new functions. Maruti Jimny is not so much an orthodox off-road vehicle, but more like an off-road vehicle with luxury SUV elements.
The Maruti Jimny is being developed to compete with new off-road vehicles such as India's Mahindra Thar and India's Force Motors Gurkha. It is almost certain that the Maruti Jimny will be launched in India.
Maruti Jimny will be launched at AUTO EXPO 2023 in India on January 23, 2023. But it is unclear whether it will be sold globally in the future.
