This BMW Vision Neue Class is a harbinger of your future 3-series - AutoReview.nl

In January, BMW called the study model the i Vision Dee at the CES in Las Vegas, now the Germans are talking about the BMW Vision Neue Class. Whatever they call the car, many enthusiasts will breathe a sigh of relief when they see the concept. From 2025, stylish, minimalist design will prevail in BMW's electric cars.

It always seemed like provocations from BMW's chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk. But were models like the BMW XM and the BMW i7 really beautiful? Mwah, we express ourselves carefully. If you don't like the current design, you have to be patient for another two years. From 2025, BMW will have a new design language, which was called 'Neue Klasse' with a sense of the glorious past. The Vision Neue Klasse - a harbinger of what lies ahead - thus nods to the sixties! But with electric motors and an insane dashboard.

Retro with a modern twist

With a small dose of healthy imagination, the concept model is somewhat similar to the 'old Neue Klasse'. For example, with the sloping bonnet that ends at the characteristic BMW kidneys. Although they are no longer between the headlights, but they cover the entire width of the car. The round headlights have been replaced by modern LED strips. Also nice: the Hofmeister kink is back in the C-pillars, just like in the Neue Klasse, where this design trick was first applied.

The combustion engines that were used in the old Neue Klasse are of course not found in the new Neue Klasse. The two cars that BMW wants to introduce on the basis of this study model will have a fully electric powertrain. This is an electric version of the BMW 3 series and an electric SUV. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse model obviously refers to the former and could very well resemble your future electric 3 Series.

The new iDrive

Appearance and design language may refer to the past, but technically the BMW Vision Neue Class is of course state-of-the-art. You can therefore speak of the new iDrive. Minimalism seems to be of paramount importance. The BMW actually no longer has a dashboard, you only see a large touchscreen next to the specially shaped steering wheel. They seem to have been inspired by Munich Tesla. Perhaps they hope that this imitation with their new 3 series will give them something Tesla Model 3customers can snatch away…

The information on the touchscreen can also be moved to the windscreen using a technique that BMW calls 'Panoramic Vision'. With this, BMW creates a kind of huge head-up display.

Faster charging, greater range

The design language of the Vision Neue Class points the way to years to come. In addition, BMW promises that the EVs can charge 30 percent faster, have a 30 percent greater range and are also 25 percent more efficient. According to BMW, this is possible, among other things, through the use of round battery cells that offer up to 20 percent more energy density.
