Nissan has unveiled the Concept 20-23. This electric precursor to the Nissan Micra looks very cool with its flared wheel arches, enormous roof spoiler and striking gull-wing doors, but also a bit unrealistic. Yet the Nissan Concept 20-23 is more serious than you might expect at first glance.
Nissan doesn't say anything about it officially, but the Nissan Concept 20-23 is a precursor to the new one Nissan Micra. The current model, which is based on the Renault Clio, has been on the market since 2017 and is due for renewal. At the beginning of 2022, Nissan already released a teaser photo of a new compact electric car for Europe (the middle photo below). Then Nissan was talking about the successor to the Micra. And its oval-shaped headlights look suspiciously similar to those of the currently presented study model.

So assume that you see a precursor of the new Nissan Micra here, although the final production model will look a lot less spectacular. Nevertheless, it promises to be the nicest generation ever, harking back to the design of the Micra from the beginning of this millennium. That version also has those funny oval-shaped headlights. With a bump on it, so that you can better estimate the angles of the nose when parking.
Because the new electric Nissan Micra is intended to be an affordable electric car, you can appreciate the extravagant design of the Concept 20-23. Don't forget the futuristic interior, because you won't see that in the production model either. Fortunately, because it doesn't look very comfortable.
The Nissan 20-23 is on the CMF B-EV platform, which also includes the new electric Renault 5 and the Alpine A290 come to be. The new Nissan Micra will therefore come off the same production line as the new Renault 5, in France.
Apart from the extravagant design, Nissan says very little about the concrete specifications of the Concept 20-23. In fact, nothing at all. In any case, count on front-wheel drive and a range of around 400 kilometers, as the 136 hp Renault 5 also has those specs. The name Concept 20-23 is a reference to the 20th anniversary of Nissan's design studio in London, which is responsible for the design of the car.
The Nissan Concept 20-23 is not only a harbinger of the new electric Micra, but of a major EV offensive from Nissan. By 2030, Nissan says it will introduce 27 electrified models worldwide, including 19 EVs. Every new Nissan that comes to Europe from now on will be fully electric. The brand also says that it will have its long-awaited solid-state battery ready in 2028. Nissan expects to be able to manufacture its electric cars cheaper and drastically shorten charging times.
