This is what the new Opel Astra looks like

With the new Astra, Opel is consistently building on the new Vizor nose, which is inspired by the Opel Manta A from the 1970s. We saw that earlier with the new Opel Mokka and the facelifted Crossland. However, we expect that the dynamic front comes into its own with a traditional hatchback or station wagon like the Astra than with the previously presented SUVs. For that reason too, we are very curious about footage showing the car in its entirety.

Opel Astra follows the latest fashion

There is still great uncertainty about the rear of the new Opel Astra. All we know is that the model name is written in capitals across the entire width. That's nothing new. In fact, that is the prevailing fashion for almost all brands.

The Astra also follows the Mokka in the interior design. In the pest photos we see the Pure Panel introduced with that model. That's Rüsselsheim's for a vehicle-wide set of instruments with two digital screens overlapping each other.

New Astra is a brother of the Peugeot 308

Like its brand-new Stellantis brothers, the DS 4 and the Peugeot 308, the new Astra is on the company's new EMP2 platform. The Astra L is expected to be available as a plug-in hybrid, with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to an electric motor. Presumably, there is a choice of versions with 180 or 225 hp, just like the 308. At the base of the engine range we find the already established three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engines with 110 or 130 hp. It remains to be seen whether Astras with a diesel engine will come onto the market in the Netherlands. This is the case with the Crossland, Mokka and Grandland X.

We are still in the dark about a fully electric Opel Astra-e. For example, DS Automobiles claims that the DS 4 will not get an all-electric variant; it remains a plug-in hybrid. It has been confirmed that an electric Peugeot e-308 is in the pipeline. This is expected in 2023. In short, to be continued!
