Top and flop - the good and bad car news of week 38 (2023) -

Friday afternoon, half past four. Computer off, the door to your workplace can be closed behind you, the weekend has started. At we look back on a week in which we came happily from Turin after a test of the Fiat 600e and we challenge you to puzzle with the new Audi model names. Good news, bad news. Top and flop.

+ Top - Fiat counts again with the 600e

For years we complained about Fiat: when was it going to come up with a decent new model besides the 500? Well, there it is. The Fiat 600e looks like a real Fiat and is based on solid Stellantis technology. A perfect combination, as it turned out during our visit review of the Fiat 600e. Very good!

+ Top - Hats off to the VW Tiguan, an 'irritating' all-rounder

The Volkswagen Tiguan is such an irritating all-rounder: it is spacious, practical, beautiful, reliable and also drives well. The new Tiguanwill come to the Netherlands in early 2024. We delved into the bestseller and gave six reasons why all lights are green to become a success.

+ Top - Eliminate increase in petrol and diesel excise duties

Yes, we know: because of the upcoming elections we are all being pampered with showers. Discount here, benefit there. But it is still nice that the excise tax increase that would come on January 1 for petrol and diesel does not continue. It is somewhat justified, because the Netherlands is already the same most expensive country in the EU if you want to fill up with E10.

- Flop - A6 becomes A7: puzzling with Audi

Audi's type designation has been a source of confusion for years. How should we interpret 40 TFSI? Now the familiar names are also being overhauled. If you want a petrol A6, you will have to order an A7 soon. What's up with that? We dove in and rewritten the Audi manual!

- Flop - Road tax for vintage cars

Isn't it beautiful, all those beautiful vintage cars driving on the Dutch roads in the last September sun, before they disappear into winter storage. The owners also enjoy it, because they do not have to pay road tax for their over-40s driving car. But that will change in 2028. So don't count on getting rich if you want to keep driving your car from 1988 or a more recent year forever. Even after 2028, you will simply receive a blue envelope in the mail.

- Flop - what a cool Mini, but how expensive is it...

Of Mini eMastered is so much fun that you spontaneously start eating fries from an old newspaper and drinking tea with milk. Not to speak perfect English, but to save money. How else do you get 145,000 euros? The common people are waiting for the new Mini Electric to appear in the Netherlands next year. It will be a lot more affordable.
