Volkswagen continues to muddle through: production of two EVs temporarily halted - AutoReview.nl

Volkswagen is in the corner where the blows are falling. Demand for electric models continues to be disappointing, which is why the Germans are now forced to temporarily halt the production of two EVs from their group.

It's going well according to the news agency Reuters to the production lines of the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Cupra Born in Zwickau and Dresden. From October 2, employees in the factories involved in the two electric hatchbacks must stop working. Production in Zwickau will start again as scheduled from October 13, with the Dresden factory following 3 days later.

Question is disappointing

According to a Volkswagen spokesperson, the temporary production stop is due to disappointing demand for both models. The Wolfsburgers do not disclose how many factory employees are affected by this forced break.

Earlier this month, Volkswagen announced that it will not renew the contracts of 269 temporary workers at the Zwickau factory. On top of that, another 2,000 jobs would be at risk. Even then, the Germans blamed the disappointing sales. According to Volkswagen, expiring subsidy schemes and sky-high inflation could also not be seen separately from the measures.

VW continues to invest

Despite the difficult position the car company is in, Volkswagen remains confident in the chosen course. The Wolfsburg brand continues to invest in the Zwickau factory. This factory is known as the birthplace of many electric Volkswagens. Currently, approximately 10,700 employees at the plant are exclusively engaged in building Volkswagen EVs.
