The press release for the new Skoda Kodiaq states that you always have access to Skoda Connect services. This makes it possible to purchase and activate certain functions online. Popularly said: you have to pay extra if you want navigation or adaptive cruise control, for example.
We have only just recovered from the 340 hp Skoda Enyaq Coupé RS, especially in the flashy body color mamba green Skoda's once down-to-earth image has definitely been shattered, or the brand is once again testing our ability to cope. According to autocar.co.uk stops Skoda namely with built-in navigation in its latest models. An example is the new Skoda Kodiaq. If you want this hybrid SUV with navigation, for example, you must take out a subscription.
Skoda does this BMW after. That brand also charges a monthly fee for certain functions. For example, you pay 9 euros per month for a high beam assistant. An automatic parking assistance system? No problem, but that will cost you 22 euros per month. These digital services are called BMW ConnectedDrive. The hardware is already in the car, but to activate it you have to dig into your pockets. Are the car brands tricking you out of your pocket again? Not necessarily. Because there is something to be said for it, because who wants seat heating in the summer?
As soon as Skoda finally decides to offer navigation via a subscription, you will read about it in our newsletter:

Skoda seems to be taking the same path with its Skoda Connect services and is talking about 'purchasing climate, navigation and ambient light services online'. Or as head of sales and marketing Martin Jahn said to Autocar during the unveiling of the new Skoda Kodiaq: "We are investigating the possibility of on-demand functions and want to give the customer the opportunity to order certain functions online."
From ownership to use is very normal nowadays (just think of your Netflix subscription or... private lease), but the fact that a no-nonsense brand like Skoda starts with this takes some getting used to. Anyway, the world is changing and we are even used to the big Enyaq Coupé RS.
