Porsche's first SUV Cayenne

Cayenne is a 5-door SUV first launched by Porsche in 2002.

It has Porsche's unique sports handling, driving performance and the appearance of a Porsche model that can be recognized at a glance, coupled with excellent off-road performance, ride comfort and luxurious atmosphere, it has gained extremely high popularity.

Porsche positions the Cayenne as a "new-style sports car". The third-generation Cayenne currently on sale is not only a general-spec model, but also a "Cayenne coupé" model with a gently sloping roof like a coupe.

According to foreign media reports, when Cayenne was designing the first-generation model, it had considered making a convertible model.

In the past, the launch of the Cayenne convertible was considered and a prototype was produced, but the car is a Package Function Model and cannot be driven on the road. It is now kept in the Porsche Museum.

The prototype car has the roof removed, and the removal range reaches the head of the rear seat. Unlike the Cayenne 5-door model, it is set like a 911 Cabriolet 2-door model.

The car is not a direct replacement of the Cayenne with a soft top, but it is designed as another independent Cayenne convertible model.

Just looking at the upper part of the body, you will feel that it has the style of 911 Cabriolet, and the height of the car follows the design of Cayenne. Porsche may have felt something after looking at the design of this model, but in the end it did not commercialize it.

Although there are "coupe SUVs", "convertible SUVs" are rare

There are many crossover SUV models like the Cayenne coupé with a coupe silhouette on the market.

Usually coupe models are sold together with soft-top convertible models like 911 and Boxster/Cayman, but there are few such examples of coupe SUVs, and even if they are sold, they will not last long.

Porsche designer Michael Mauer said in an interview with foreign media: "It is very challenging to make an SUV into a convertible in terms of aesthetics and form."
