Why you should be careful if you buy an electric car around New Year's Eve - AutoReview.nl

The subsidy pot for the purchase of new electric cars is far from empty. Yet you run the risk of missing out on the 2,950 euro incentive premium if you buy an EV around the turn of the year.

You have hesitated for a long time, but at the end of this year you finally made the decision. You buy or privately lease an electric car. Because this seems like the moment. Many brands have significantly reduced the prices of their EVs, and you have a nice thirteenth month ahead of you.

And then there is the purchase subsidy. Of the original 67 million euros in the SEPP pot, tens of millions remain. So you can definitely add 2,950 euros to that extra big December salary. That makes a big difference to your wallet.

SEPP 2023 does not run until December 31

But there is a big catch, the Bovag warns. Because what many people do not know is that the SEPP scheme for 2023 will not continue until December 31. The closing date is Friday, December 29 at 12 noon.

From one minute past 12 on the 29th, it is no longer possible to submit an application for the subsidy pot for this calendar year. “Agreements signed between December 29, 2023 at noon and January 1, 2024 are therefore not eligible for a subsidy,” reports the Bovag on its website.

Tip

Well insured on the road

Choose the coverage that suits your (electric) car with Interpolis Car Insurance. Standard €0 deductible and free choice of repairs.

When will the subsidy tap open for 2024?

It also does not help to postpone the transfer of the license plate to your name by a few days. Because the SEPP pot for 2024 will not open again until Tuesday, January 9 - at 9:00 am. The subsidy amount will remain 2950 euros per new EV in 2024. The previously proposed reduction to 2,550 euros has been canceled.

Subsidy for second-hand EVs almost gone

If you have your sights set on a used car this year with a purchase subsidy of 2,000 euros, then you have to act very quickly. Very little of the original 37 million is left and the pot is expected to be completely empty before the end of 2023. But from January 9, 2024 you can again claim 2,000 euros for a second-hand electric car. provided he meets the conditions.
